Our story

Less scrolling. More spreading, smashing and sharing.

Plantbrød turns plant-based smørrebrød into illustrated recipe posters that belong on the kitchen wall—not behind another screen.

The beginning

A recipe can be useful and still deserve a frame.

Plantbrød grew from a simple kitchen-table idea: what if the week’s recipes were big enough for everyone to see, beautiful enough to keep, and clear enough for children to join in?

We took inspiration from Copenhagen’s open-faced sandwich tradition, made the toppings plant-forward, and moved the instructions onto one generous A1 sheet. Each issue is curated in Copenhagen, prepared for print, and dispatched from Bristol to homes across the UK.

01

Made to be used

Every poster is a recipe, a kitchen prompt and a record of what your family cooked together.

02

Plants first

Familiar ingredients, playful combinations and a gentle route towards eating a wider range of plants.

03

Little hands welcome

Tasks are split between grown-ups and small-ups, so spreading and sprinkling count as real cooking.

A new kitchen ritual

Each month brings a new theme and eight small, open-faced sandwich recipes. The aim is not perfection. It is one easy reason to gather at the counter, try a vegetable in a new form, and let dinner feel a little more like play.

Past issues become a growing kitchen gallery: something to cook from, tick off, talk about and keep.

Why a printed poster?

Phones are brilliant, but they are not always the best sous-chef. A poster stays visible, wipes clean with a careful cloth, and lets several pairs of hands follow along at once. There are no pop-ups, passwords or disappearing tabs between the ingredients and the table.

Our working ruleIf a five-year-old cannot spot their job and a tired grown-up cannot understand the recipe at a glance, the layout is not finished.

Still around the table

We are building Plantbrød one issue at a time: testing recipes, improving the instructions and finding more ways to make family cooking generous, practical and plant-forward.

Have an idea for a future theme or a note from your own kitchen? We would love to hear it.
